My first crush. My first heartbreak. My brother’s best friend.

The butterflies in my stomach turned into full blown eagles the second our lips touched. A kiss under the stars that changed our relationship forever.

After a lifetime of wishing, I stared up into Ford’s eyes with his fingers caressing my cheek and my heart racing.

The evening ended with my heart bleeding on the ballroom floor.

He destroyed my heart two years ago...but now he wants back in my life.

This time I won’t fall under his spell. I’ll resist his sexy, scruffy beard, and panty-melting smirk.

I thought I was over him. Hell, I fully planned to wave to him through my rearview mirror...but with one text, in the middle of the night, I know I'm in over my head.

Ford: I need you.

Fearless King is book four in the Kings of Rittenhouse series by Maya Hughes. For all of you Ford fans, you are finally getting his story. You can definitely read this as a stand alone. The characters do recur, though, in each book, so you would just be lacking the emotional connection to the rest of the group. In my case, I have read the prequel and book three before this one.

fearless king maya hughes - Google Search

Ford Atherton has been best friends with Colm since they were kids. They played hockey together in high school and college. They are now professional hockey players playing for Philly. Colm has been sent to Los Angeles to rehab an injured knee while Ford and the rest of the group are in the middle of their season.

Ford has watched Colm’s younger sister who is about six years younger than he is, grow up. She and Colm lost their parents in a tragic accident years ago so they are all each other has now. Ford always thought of her as a sort of little sister as well, until one day he realized she wasn’t a kid anymore, and he definitely wasn’t thinking about her as a sister.

Olivia (Liv) Frost has had a crush on Ford since she was a kid. She followed her brother and his friends around just to get closer to him. Unfortunately, as she got older, Ford’s younger brother, Grant, developed a crush on her, one she never returned. But it just complicated matters. Then, about eighteen months ago, the kiss happened. The kiss that would make any other kiss pale in comparison. For about an hour, both she and Ford had stars in their eyes, allowing them both to dream about a future together. Then the night took a drastic turn and all hopes were ground into the dirt.

“Anything to do with Ford was a one-way trip to heartache. Been there, done that, got the jersey.”

Now, Liv is nearly twenty one and Ford is twenty six. Liv is in her junior year of college planning to be a doctor. She spends her days in classes or studying, endless hours upon hours studying, trying to beat the information into her brain. Her parents were doctors and it was their dream that she follow in their footsteps. It’s also her brother’s dream for her. Colm is more than over-protective of her. He follows every grade, every detail of her life. Liv isn’t sure anymore who she is living her life for, herself, or her brother. The only break she allows herself is dancing. She teaches a few classes a week at a local studio. When she is dancing, she is free.

mouve

She and Ford haven’t talked since that night a year and a half ago. But now all of a sudden, he is trying to initiate himself back into her life. She tried to leave him behind, to shut off her feelings for him after that awful night. But one touch and she’s right back where she started. He says he just wants to be friends again. Can she do that, be friends with him while still secretly craving him? Is it better to have him back in her life any way she can than not at all? At the same time, his younger brother, Grant, is still trying to ask her out. She has no interest in him except as a friend. But if he knew how she felt about Ford, he would be devastated.

I really enjoyed watching these two slowly build a relationship. With Ford’s busy travel schedule with the team, texts and phone calls were often all they had. But it gave them a safe way to communicate, to reconnect. Soon, though, it’s not enough. They need more. It does seem that the universe is against them, though. With Liv’s busy schedule, Ford’s practice and game schedule, and their friends, something is always getting in the way. When they finally do come together, it was everything.

“Hiding from your problems wasn’t how you fixed them, it only made them that much worse when they were brought out into the light of day.”

couple cuddles in bath tub

There were so many secrets, long buried issues between Ford and Colm that should have been shared, the situation with Grant, and so many more. And when everything comes out, so many people are involved, and so much trust is lost. So many problems could have been avoided if they had been honest with one another.

I love you in scrabble tiles

This is a story of one woman, Liv, who I thought was the strongest character of all involved here, finally deciding who she wanted to live her life for. And for Ford, finally coming to terms with some things in his past long buried and how it affects his life now. I loved Ford’s little brother Grant. Wait until you meet their mom, Sylvia. This woman can seriously bake! Prepare to crave cookies!!! And Colm, well, you might not want to hear how I feel about him. He clearly is in pain, and has so much to figure out. The final book in the series will be his story. There is so much anger there. I can’t wait to see who will help him find his way back.

“Anywhere with her was where I wanted to be.”

When Ford and Olivia learn how to be with each other, the struggle of admitting the truth to others is one they must learn to cope and also learn to admit that loving each other is better than not...

I have been anticipating Ford and Olivia's story for such a long time, now that they are both here getting my hands on this beauty was my first priority and I finished it in record time as well. After them being in such a loophole of going around each other, having secret glances, secret touches, it all just accumulates that lust and passion they have towards each other. And once they are together, that combustion of being with each other is one that will have you craving more of their love. Secrets are revealed, and some are kept, but at the end of the day Olivia knows that being with Ford is the only thing that she craves for. His attention, his presence and love is all she wants. For Ford, he just wants her completely;
"There was nothing else but the flames he'd fanned in my body, and there was no one else who could put them out. There was only Ford..."

The sweet side to a rugged hockey player is one you do not want to miss out. Maya knows how to properly introduce a series in which characters keep on coming, and also keep you motivated for much more. Now we just have to wait for the final book in this series, and Colm's book will b... interesting? I have an idea as to who his love interest might be, but I may also be wrong.

Overall, this is a lovely romance novel that will have you swooning, panting, sweating, and also loving Ford all over again. The kings of Rittenhouse is one hell of a series that you really cannot miss on. Thank you to Maya for writing such a fantastic novel. I am looking forward to reading her final installment in this series!

Fearless King had everything I love about the brothers-best-friend trope. It had angst, and drama, and the sweetness of two characters knowing they shouldn't be together but unable to stop the pull of their chemistry. It was amazingly addictive and once I opened this book up I couldn't stop reading. Ford and Liv were just perfect together and I couldn't get enough of them.

Ford was so protective of Liv and it pained me to see him trying to get close to her, knowing that he shouldn't, but still trying to get around the walls she had built up. He hurt her in the past, albeit unintentionally, but it made it harder for him to get close to her. I wanted to physically push these two together at some parts when they were both being stubborn, but I not so secretly loved the angst they brought to the story.

Liv, I could just hug this girl. I felt for her so much as she struggled to live up to her brothers expectations. It also made me want to slap her brother a time or two but I'll just leave that for the next book. But then Ford was there to swoop in and made her happy again and I loved it. Seriously, these two characters had me swooning all over my house last night.

Overall, read this dang book! The romance, the friendship you see in this group, all of it is amazing. I actually haven't read the previous books in this series yet but you can bet that I will be going back to rectify that mistake ASAP. I'm also dying for the next book now, and won't be waiting too patiently to get my hands on it.

I have read every book in this series and I have got to say that they are pretty entertaining, so far I have enjoyed all of them. I definitely feel like I could read another 10 of them...maybe even more ;)

very entertaining gif - Google zoeken

Now, I also have to be honest and say that this right here, is one of my least favorite tropes....the "brother's best friend". I am not a big fan. There is always some form of fighting and most of the time...I agree with, and feel sorry for, the brother. I just can't help myself... As was the case with this book.

I feel for you gif - Google zoeken

So as much as I loved Ford and Liv to finally be together, I kept thinking how Colm was gonna feel about all this. And them being together wasn't the only issue either. So many secrets are about to be revealed...

I do understand that Ford and Liv really belong together...they definitely burned up those sheets, but now all I want is for Colm to be happy !!!

hot couplke gif - Google zoeken

Which means I am gonna be on pins and needles until I get to read his book. Thankfully the author is not making us wait too long. I have a feeling Colm's book is gonna be my favorite out of them all...I have always liked him best ;)

That said... Ford and Liv were quite lovely together and I am glad they finally found their happiness together.

I highly recommend this series !!

Olivia was everything I wanted and everything I should’ve never dared to hope I’d have.

I'm a sucker for a good older brother's best friend trope. Add into this a sexy hockey player that you can't help but love and a strong heroine that you can't help but relate to, and you've got yourself one delicious recipe for an enjoyable romance.

Fearless King is the story of Ford, the King's goalie, and Olivia, his best friend's younger sister. It's very much a character driven story with plenty of angst and a touch of a forbidden romance to boot.

While this book is technically a standalone, I still feel like I came in with a big disadvantage having only read the previous book in this series. There's a lot of character driven story arcs that seems to cross over throughout the series that I felt may have helped to tether me a little more to the story. As it was, I couldn't help but feel like I was coming into this story halfway through. The true enormity of the stinted relationship he now has with Olivia's older brother and his best friend unravels in pieces throughout the book.

The romance is very much a slow burn, and while I normally love that, it was a little too slow for me here. I wanted more romance. I felt like all the elements keeping Olivia and Ford apart began to almost overshadow the romance of the story.

Now don't get me wrong, I still very much enjoyed the story. But I also couldn't help but feel immensely frustrated by some of the things revolving around both Olivia and Ford's siblings. I really hated Colm, Olivia's brother, and his antagonistic behavior throughout the entire book. I wanted to shake him he made me so mad at times. But it also made me that much more rabid for his book which we're getting next.

This was a wonderful read even though it wasn't my favorite book of Maya's, but considering I've loved the others I've read of hers, that's not exactly a criticism. This is entirely subjective and definitely more of me than the book since it played against a few of my personal biases. I still really enjoyed the story of Ford and Olivia and I definitely can't wait for the last book in this series.

This one turned out to be a bit of a disappointment, especially after all the build-up. 2.5 stars.

Usually brother's best friend/best friend's sister/best friend's brother (any variation of this setup, pretty much xD) is one of my favourite tropes but this story didn't really move me.

First of all, it felt like the author overdid it on the angst front. I'm all for star-crossed, together-against-all-odds lovers but the dynamic between Ford, Liv, Colm and Grant was just too much.

Five shine stars for Liv and Ford!!!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Maya Hughes is the new author to me and "Fearless King" is her first book I've read 😊.

I love NA genre and this one was a mix of college and sports romance with brother's best friend trope 😍.

So, that means I loved this one a lot ❤!

Liv and Ford are one of the sweetest couples that I've found in books lately. The one you fall in love from the beginning and waiting for their happily ever after the whole book.

They secretly love each other, hate each other but after all, they do everything to keep their love even that means that Liv needs to argue with her brother Colm.

If you love hockey, sweet couples and so much fun through reading a book, then this one is perfect for you!

Highly recommended!!!

P. S. Can't wait to read the next book in a series 😍😍😍! I need Colm's book right now!!!

⭐️ 5 "Dreams Can Change" Stars ⭐️
Since the start of the Kings of Rittenhouse Series, I’ve been impatiently waiting for the release of Olivia and Ford’s story. There’s just something I love about the little forbidden aspect of a brother’s best friend romance. Maya Hughes crafted a truly sweet, emotional slow burn romance that I adored with Fearless King.

"She was Liv, the woman who'd haunted my dreams for so long I'd stopped wanting to wake up because when I opened my eyes, I knew I could never have her."

Liv and Ford have been denying the feelings they have for each other for years. When Liv’s big brother Colm goes on the West coast for a few weeks, he asks his best friend Ford to keep an eye on her. So after months and months of no contact, Liv and Ford slowly jump into a beautiful friendship. Their relationship is really gorgeous. They connect so easily and their chemistry is powerful and undeniable.

Liv has been focusing on her goal to go to medical school since a very young age. But it’s more than apparent that it’s not her dream anymore. She’s crushing under the weight of her studies and the expectations of her brother. She needs to reconsider her true desires and Ford is there to help her make decisions about her future.

Ford is also dealing with his own dilemmas. Going for the girl he’s been infatuated with for years isn’t as easy as it should. She’s his best friend’s little sister, but also his younger brother is crushing on her. He truly needs to follow his heart, but it's not easy with these two big obstacles.

"There was nothing else but the flames he's fanned in my body, and there was no one else who could put them out. There was only Ford."

Fearless King was everything I wanted. It made me smile and cry, but mostly swoon so much. Maya Hughes brought to life my new favorite couple in this amazing series. I'm more than intrigued about Colm's story now!

Gah! Fearless King is a fantastic angst filled, emotional slow-burn romance that completely captured my heart. I have been waiting for Ford's book for some time now, and it went above and beyond my expectations. I absolutely loved it!

Ford is the most quiet and reserved of the Kings. He's the type of guy that tries to fly under the radar when it comes to his fans. He's a pro hockey player, but he doesn't care about the fame that comes with it. To him, he's just going out there and doing what he's good at and what he loves. And being able to do that with his close friends is a bonus.

He and Colm have been best friends for some time now, so he's watched as Colm's little sister Olivia grew up. Colm and Olivia lost their parents in a tragic accident some years back, so it's always been the two of them against the world. Ford has always looked at her like a sister and helped watch out for her over the years. But all of that changed two years ago while at a mutual friend's wedding. Now she is all grown up and he can't stop thinking about her.

Olivia has had a crush on Ford since she was a kid. She would always follow her brother and his friends around just to be close to him. Now she finally has her chance, and the two of them share a magical kiss. One of those kisses that sets the bar high for anyone else. After the kiss, the two of them make plans only for the night to take a drastic turn for the worst. Will they be able to find their way back from this?

I absolutely devoured this book, from the very first word to the very last. Then I sat there wishing the story wasn't over, wishing I could stay within this world...with these characters...just a little longer. Fearless King is proof that Maya Hughes can write humor, heart and angst in a perfect harmony. I could go on and on about this story, the author and how much I loved each word that I read. I loved it that much. This is easily a top read of 2019 for me, and hopefully will capture your heart as it did mine.

I'd give this so many more stars than 5 if I could. Since I cant, I'm giving it my favorite reads for 2019. Or at least until I get to read Colum's story ( Fall ... Get here sooner ).
When I read Emmett and Avery's story, I have to admit, if didn't think Maya could top that one. They had been my favorite couple. Had is the key word here. The top spot has changed.
Ford and Olivia's story is one we can allllll relate too. That "he's my older brothers friend, but I'm so crushing on him" thing. That middle/high school crush that developed into something more. Way more. Add to that, one searing kiss, and Ford FINALLY admits, it's been her all along.
If you've missed any of the King books until now, don't worry, you can still read this and follow along. But what's the fun in that. Go. Run. Start your obsession with the Kings.

I was very excited to get into Olivia and Ford story because I love a good best friend brother book but this was not what I expected it to be.

I didn’t like the ending leaving things with Colm unresolved and how he treated her made me so mad. Also, the beginning was very slow. Another thing I didn’t like was what happened between the prologue until they met again…WHY? WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE 2 YEARS AFTER THE LAST BOOK! That seems to long… (personal prefereence)

Nonetheless, after some chapters on people suffering from a big misscomunication, it got better and I got to appreciate every character and the love story. I really wish I didn’t end on such a bad mood with her brother but I guess his book is next and also, IMO…i’m skeptical.

if you have trope, i am not a fan, you are your brother's best friend

why? It's not just because I have three siblings and none of their friends ever look at me (ok, there's a huge age gap), but it's because I hate the whole drama '' my little sister is off-limits ''.
Liv has had a crush on Ford since middle school, and now that she is almost done with college, they have decided to stop avoiding their feelings.

the relationship was good, but do you know that feeling after finishing a book that everything was settled? this did not give me that, because the drama between Liv and her brother wasn't solved!
forty chapters and couldn't we spend a chapter solving it?
however, great audiobook.

My heart!
Ford and Liv story is so good!!!!
There’s a lot to take in and talk about it but that would mean giving spoilers which I won’t for sure because you have to read and go through their journey of finding that happiness they deserve so much.
Family is the most important thing in our lives, and we don’t want to disappoint or fail them, although sometimes the decisions taken are not what we really want for our own happiness and life.
Prepare yourself for a great story full of love, disappointment and happiness, a well written book as usual, hot intimate scenes and angst and twists that will make you to finish reading it in one sitting.
Can’t wait for angry Colm’s book.

I just want to say - I LOVE THE KINGS OF RITTENHOUSE! I have loved this series since the first book and I will love them until the last. I have been anxiously awaiting Ford's book - he's the quiet, broody, stoic, mysterious, sexy one - you know the type. In the previous book, it hinted that there was maybe more to Ford and his best friend (Colm's) younger sister, Olivia, and I was HERE for it!

The bond between Ford & Colm has always run deeper than just BFF's. They have become family to one another, especially after the death of Colm & Olivia's parents. There have been hardly any scenes in this series that didn't contain Ford & Colm without their younger siblings, Grant & Olivia. As the years went on and Olivia grew up - I only hoped that her connection with Ford would mature as well, and it sure did.

Oh sweet Olivia...she is beautiful, bright, and honestly just coming into being an independent young woman in this book. She is torn between relishing Colm's over-protective nature since their parents died, and wanting to prove to him that she is not a child anymore. She has been chasing the dreams of her parents and when she was young for so long that she doesn't even know if they're truly hers anymore. When Ford & her reunite, not only are the sparks still there between them; but Ford so easily slips into that person of comfort for Olivia. She is able to speak her mind and truths, and he is able to let his guard down. The natural connection and chemistry between them is so real and organic that you can't help but fall for them and hold your breath throughout all of their ups and downs.

Ford is well....Ford. He remains the stoic and introverted friend in the Kings' group; however, it is Olivia who is able to pull him out of his shell; and he finds that he can easily reveal his feelings for her, as well as show his vulnerabilities to his family, friends and in the spotlight. Olivia gives him the confidence to put himself out there - outside of the hockey rink. She is his light, and he is inspired by her. His passion and all-consuming love for her are so swoon-worthy!!! This man would do anything for her, and their passion was steamy and left me sighing and teary-eyed at times.

M Hughes knows how to write characters who are relatable, believable, and have so many layers to them that you just have to keep reading until there are no more pages to their story. Ford & Olivia were no different. I loved this book because of this, and also because the family of Kings played a big part in this book again as well. They are loyal, protective, fun-loving, and would do anything for each other. It seems their bonds only get stronger with each book in the series, and I am both looking forward to and dreading Colm's book as I know it will be the end of the Kings' saga! Well done once again M Hughes!! Thank you for creating these amazing characters and the Kings!!

I've been dyinggg for Ford and Olivia's story since the very beginning. Ford is best friends with Olivia's older brother, Colm, Liv is a bit younger than Ford. Ford's brother, Grant, who is Liv's age, also has feelings for her. So, there are complications stacked up against them big time! The group has become a big factor as far as family goes for Colm and Olivia since their parents passing. It was them against the world. Olivia has big expections for her future from her brother. Its suffocating her and she does not want to disappoint him. They went through so much after their parents passing, she knows its a part of their legacy.

Ford is quite the character. He is the quiet one of the Kings. He never likes to be in the focus of the public eye, doesn't like attention. He really feels so much for Liv but he can't be with her for so many reasons. These two had so much love for each other, but it was disappointment after disappointment. There is just too much against them. Ford and Colm is going through some issues amongst each other which makes the complications even bigger. Olivia wants to resist because it just seems like it will never happen between them.

This was a slow burn, heartaching, high hopes to full on hearts bursting kinda love. I loved these two together and how much they feel so much for each other. I can't wait for the next King of Rittenhouse story. I love love loved their story.

Shes his best friends little sister. Hands off, eyes averted. Dont look dont touch!

Shes blossomed from the teenager that tags on to a true beauty. Her smile makes his heart sing.

Hes her big brothers best friend, the guy who knows how to play a woman's body till if hits the high notes. But still she wants to step out the friend zone with him.

A romantic wedding, an earth shattering kiss and everything splinters and breaks before their eyes....

Oh what an amazing read! I love the forbidden and oh boy this reletionship was not meant to be for so many reasons!

What an edgy read full of restlessness, apprehension and full on evasion.

Ford the defender, both in his career and private life. Hes tough but really a softie.

Liv forever the little sister on the edge of the circle of Kings. Shes the good girl, the people pleaser, until she wakes up. Then she comes into her own and is truly stunning.

I've read all the Kings books and each one has melted my heart for different reasons but I think this is going to be forever my favourite unless Colms book can change my mind.

Its devastating and sends a powerful message whilst being beautiful and amazing at the same time.

I have so much love for this series!! I dont want it to end...

I am deceased. Ford is here, I repeat Ford is here. It's been a long, anticipated wait to get this guy's story and I am so beyond excited it's finally here. And y'all, it's better than anything I could have hoped for - full of angsty goodness, relationships on the line, secret dates, touches and looks at all the other kings and... wait for it....
the freaking Fulton U as well! I screamed when the characters were mentioned. Gah, I just love that there was a semi crossover; this book gaves us a little insight to the upcoming books in the Fulton U series and gah I cannot wait. And of course, it gives a lot of Colton since this is his sister's book as well as his bestfriends'. Boy, I love all the Kings but Colton was a REAL jerk and even though I get where he is coming from (he has a lot going on), Liv deserved better from her brother. But despite him being a complete jerk in this book, I cannot wait to get his story and get inside his head to understand him better and see all the dark and twisted things going on there.

Now getting back to Ford and Liv, my goodness! The Wedding chapter had me so excited and then it kind of broke my heart. These two have a history, a whole bunch of feelings and a complicated relationship. Ford has kept his distance from Liv after their kiss at the wedding, mostly because of Colton and his own brother Gram, who also happens to be very much into Liv. It's a mess of unrequited feelings (on some parts) and this little triangle makes everything more complicated and more angsty. Ford has done some questionable things but he did not do them on purpose nor with malicious intent, he just so happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and then sh*t happens. He was struggling a lot with guilt over those things and then add on his feelings for Liv and how much he wanted to finally cave and be with her... he was a mess over that guilt and how much Colton would be pissed and disappointed with him. And then there was also Grant who I kind of didn't like, specially when he blamed Ford for always being number one... like it's not his fault, those things can't really be controled.. ugh that convo between them just made me feel some type of way and I kind of wanted to hate him a little but then he came to his senses and was a good brother and it was all good.

Colton was the opposite though... he was living far way but he was still so controlling over Liv and Ford too.. he just can't let go of the past and see that his sister is not happy and that her dreams aren't the same she had when she was 11. It kind of broke my heart that he couldn't get over himself and just let her be happy.. that's another reason I'm dying for his book. I hope he works out everything between him, Liv and Ford. I do hope he redeems himself for how he acted in this book and I just love a book with a redemption so I'll be here waiting for it.

Fearless King was another amazing book in this EPIC sports romance series. I have loved every single one of the Kings! The stories keep getting better and better just like Maya's writing. I love that we never really have to say goodbye to any of the couples because we get to see them all on the next book and see how they are doing. It's pretty amazing, I love this gang so much. I'll be so sad to have to let them all go on the next book, I don't even want to think about it. Anyway if you love a sports/college romance, ansgt goodness, a brother's bestfriend romance you need to pick this one up.

I have been loving every one of the Kings of Rittenhouse books, but I think Ford and Liv might just be my favorite. If you've read the series, you have seen the chemistry and steam building up and now we get to experience all of it.

It is completely complicated for them to be together. There's an age difference. There's the fact that Liv is Ford's best friend's little sister. The fact that there is some tension growing between Colm and Ford before this even goes down. And then add in Grant, Ford's brother who has always been in love with Liv and it leads to a wild ride. So many favorite tropes folded into one amazing story.

Liv is such a fierce little fighter. Torn between other people's expectations for her and following her dream. She is delicate, yet real and gritty.
Ford is a big sweetie who finds himself in uncomfortable places and struggling how to handle them.
And the whole Rittenhouse gang is here as well.

Binge this whole series now. :)

Ford and Olivia are friends and/ or lovers ?

Ford and Colm are best friends. Colm has a sister Olivia and he is extremely protective. Olivia has always had a crush on Ford. Ford always looked at Olivia has a little kid until two years ago he kissed her. A misunderstanding happens and they haven’t talked in two years. Colm is away in physical therapy and asked Ford to find out what’s going on with Olivia. Ford and Olivia knows there is just too many reasons they need to not explore their chemistry but what happens when they can’t help it. Great characters and storyline. Highly recommended. Amazing Book.

4.5 Brothers best friend + angst the PERFECT MIX!! I loved this book Liv and Ford are so adorable. Liv being so passionate about dancing just made this book even more perfect, her character development was amazing and loved how she started making her own decisions. Ford is just so attractive and I just love how he took care of Liv.

Also Colm was so mean during this entire book but I’m very curious about his story regardless.

I have found my new book boyfriend. I don’t just love Ford, I adore him. Sometimes reviews are hard to write because the type of book I like can greatly vary depending on my mood. But this one is easy. Ford is the type of guy that you don’t have to forgive, you can fall in love with him simply because of his honesty. He has just enough history/mistakes to make him real, without being a jackass. I’ll admit that sometime I’m in the mood for an ashhole, but I could always be in the mood for Ford! Be still my heart, and I cannot wait for book number 5. Well done Maya Hughes!!!

Fearless King is a slow burn, brother's best friend romance and the fourth book in the Kings of Rittenhouse series. The series is about five guys who played for the same hockey team in high school, but who all find their HEA when they go off to college and the NHL. I love these boys, their strong bond, and the women who will become their queens.

Ford and Liv are my favourite couple from this series and their book lived up to every single one of my expectations. The heartache, the drama, the emotion, it was also so perfect!

Ford is the strong and silent type, some who is loyal to a fault. So, when he starts developing feelings for his best friend Colm’s younger sister Liv, he begins to feel so guilty, especially as their friendship is already strained. But when they kiss at Mak and Declan’s wedding, Ford distances himself instantly, because he knows if Colm finds out, he’ll go crazy. A year later, Liv is still hurt by how Ford has avoided her since, especially as she used to think of him as one of her closest friends. Under growing pressure from her brother’s expectations, and her own, for med school, she’s burning out and begins pulling away from Colm. Colm asks Ford to keep an eye on her, and he agrees, but his restraint is already slipping when it comes to his feelings. Ford and Liv make up and begin spending time together, opening up parts of themselves they’ve hidden from everyone else. The tension grows, and they finally give in to their feelings, agreeing to keep it a secret from the group. But as their relationship goes from strength to strength, they both know their hiding something major from someone important to them both, Colm. How will Colm react? Will Liv follow her own dreams, and will Ford and Liv make it as a couple?

Ford, honestly, I knew from the beginning he was going to be my favourite King. His past meant that he always tried to do what was best, what he thought was right, but kept secrets to keep others from getting hurt, which caused problems when they finally came out. I admired his ability to admit when he was wrong though, but also to stand up for himself, because the tension with Colm was partially his fault, but not completely, although I knew from the start that what Colm was accusing him of, Ford would have never done intentionally, he’s not that kind of guy. When it came to Liv, he tried his best to keep a distance, but his feelings were too strong, and nothing, not even Colm, was going to stop him from making her his.

Liv was my favourite heroine, her personality and feistiness meant she made Ford work for it when he reappeared in her life. I loved how she stuck with the other thing she loved to do, even though it was wearing her out, because it was the only thing that felt like she was living, not surviving. My heart broke when she opened up to Ford about the pressure her parent’s legacy put her under, the hurt she went through after they passed, and how all she wanted from Colm was a brother, not a parent. Ford helped her to realise what she truly wanted in life, there were no expectations around him, she could be herself and that’s what made her truly happy.

As a couple, I adored their banter and how they just seemed to click. They worked so well together, pushing each other in different ways, and they were so hot together too. The video wasn’t great, but I am so glad everything resolved itself in the end.

Every time I read series like this, I am overwhelmed by the group dynamic, I love the banter, the wit and how they can just be there for one another always. As the girls are introduced to the group throughout the series, it doesn’t change, they are more like brothers than friends.

Overall, Fearless King is my favourite of the series, the emotions it brought out of me, I found myself holding back tears at how both Ford and Liv felt. I am slightly reluctant to read Colm’s book next, because he definitely didn’t cast himself in a very good light throughout this book, but I am sure Maya has some form of redemption in store for him that will make me fall for his charm too! I would highly recommend Fearless King!
